It was a really neat experience to spend some time with the cast of “She Stoops to Conquer” while they were preparing for opening night. Check out this behind-the-scenes video of some of the highlights.
I watched intern Seth Stelly sew on buttons and make final preparations to the numerous costumes in the play. Director Lauren Green Wyte gave me a brief history of this play’s role in modern comedy.
Considered one of the funniest plays of the eighteenth century, “She Stoops to Conquer” tells the story of a young city man’s courtship with a wealthy country man’s daughter “disjointed by mistaken identities, fear, silly pranks, class faults, (and) romance –all which heat up the evening with laughter.”
This 13-member cast will be on stage at Cité Des Arts Sept. 19 through Sept. 22 and Sept. 26 through 29. (Opening night was Sept. 12) Tickets are $15, and if the preparation was any indication, this will be a play to remember.
